Last month we told you about A Sterling Murmuration — the surprise EP release from Toronto “moccasin-gaze” artist Zoon (aka Daniel Monkman). This week they’ve returned with a video for Giizhig — the closing track on the 4-song effort.
Monkman had this to say about the new single; “Giizhig is a shorter word for the phrase ‘Ingii-pawaadaan babaamaashiyaan giizhigong’ which means ‘I dreamed I was soaring around in the sky.’ ‘Giizhig‘ alone means ‘sky’. As a young person I’d find ways to escape my reality, sometimes I’d lay in a field and watch the clouds shape shift in the sky, just like wasakeechuk, an old mythical creature that lived with the first indigenous people of Turtle Island.”
Watch the Graham Caldwell-directed video in the embed below, and make sure you hit up their socials to show some love. And, you can catch Zoon live on November 26th at Danforth Music Hall with labelmates The Rural Alberta Advantage.
