Recently, we came across the sounds of Toronto singer-songwriter Fortunato Durutti Marinetti (aka Dan Colussi), and we’re certainly glad we did. The Turin-born artist is set to drop a new album later this month, and we’re super excited to be premiering the latest single, I Came Here For A Reason. After just one listen, you’ll hear why.
“I was trying to conjure the atmosphere of a Fassbinder film even though I know I can’t even get close to Fassbinder. But I still tried. I always have lists of words and phrases that I want to use and on this one, I was able to incorporate several: icebreaker, jive, double hook, demon knot, blue layer. I knew that I Came Here For A Reason was always going to be an acrid, dirgey song, but in the studio, it was brought to life in a jazzy style by John Nicholson’s saxophones, Kevin Romain’s brushwork and Jay Arner’s fretless bass, and for that, I am eternally grateful.”
Describing the new record as “poetic jazz-rock”, Memory’s Fool is the second release under his own name following 2020’s Desire. If these first few singles are any indication, we’re in for something very special on the upcoming long-player.
Listen to I Came Here For A Reason in the embed below, and be sure to check out the previous singles here. The new album Memory’s Fool is out March 18th on Spain’s Bobo Integral … mark your calendars now.
