PREMIERE: Sheen Marina – “Self-Titled”

Truth be told, we’d never heard of Brooklyn-based band Sheen Marina until recently. That being said, it just proves it’s never too late to get into something good.

The experimental-psych-rock outfit has released a series of incredible singles over the past few months, and we couldn’t be more excited to be premiering their new self-titled record today. If you dig the sounds of Thee Oh Sees, Dismemberment Plan, XTC, or Deerhoof, this is the band for you.

After releasing two EPs and one album, the band seems to have found a comfort zone within various cross-sections of their playing/writing styles and shared influences. This has resulted in 11 songs that punch, fly, dart, float, and rarely last longer than 4 minutes. The fluff and production has been minimized, leaving just the musical paradoxes of dreamy yet commanding vocals, crunchy smooth drums, snakey hairy bass work, and sparklingly dirty guitars.

Song structures are now meant to be more or less comforting alongside the generally odd chord progressions and jagged melodies, and vocals are more of a focus — some are even meant to be sung along with. The music doesn’t seem to fade or drop down in energy levels until the final minute of the final track.

Now that we have your attention, check out the record in the embed below, along with the video premiere for Dollars. One thing is for certain, Sheen Marina definitely deserves your attention … you’ll hear why after just one listen.
