It’s no secret we’re big fans of Anishinaabe artist and community worker Adam Sturgeon. Their project Status/Non-Status has been on our radar since the release of their unforgettable debut album Warrior Down back in 2019.
After a notable follow-up effort 1, 2, 3, 4, 500 Years in 2021, and a recent Polaris Music Prize shortlist nomination (with band-mate Daniel Monkman as OMBIIGIZI), the singer-songwriter has returned with a new solo single and upcoming album announcement.
Mashkiki Sunset is the first song from Surely Travel, “a record about being trapped in a van, watching life pass by through a foggy windshield,” says Sturgeon. “While often pulled far from home, I will picture myself a bird, flying home on a beautiful sunset atop the back of my dear old van.”
Watch the video for Mashkiki Sunset (directed by Sarah Houle) in the embed, and be sure to hit up their socials for more. The new album Surely Travel is out September 23rd on You’ve Changed Records … mark your calendars now.
