If you’re not familiar with Anishinaabe alt-rockers OMBIIGIZI (om-BEE-ga-ZAY), today is your lucky day. The music is a collaboration between Daniel Monkman (Zoon) and Adam Sturgeon (Status/Non-Status). Recently, they dropped their debut single, and we can’t take this thing off rotation here at The iM.
This first offering responds to Canada’s reckoning with its residential school system with the idea of indigenous futurisms: “a song about finding the past to picture a future which is not always so easy here and now.”
Check out Residential Military in the embed below, keep it locked to their socials going forward. The debut album Sewn Back Together (produced by Kevin Drew and Nyles Spencer) drops February 10th via Arts & Crafts.
