Toronto synth-pop outfit Secret Sign recently showed up on our radar, and we’re certainly glad they did. The band consisting of Danny Alexander, Phil Baljeu, Christine Stoesser, and Kaila Moon have an infectious new single to share, and we’re super stoked to be premiering it here at The iM.
The song is featured in the new documentary No Tickets At The Door, which focuses on the challenges facing Toronto’s underground music scene during the pandemic. If you haven’t checked it out yet, we recommend you do. There are some incredible artists involved with the project.
The instrumental part of Days Bleed, produced by Baljeu, served as the inspiration for band member/singer Moon, who in early 2020 found herself juxtaposed by two powerful circumstances: a complete lockdown of society and the feeling of being newly in love.
“I was sitting in the park and writing about this new love and how it was moving fast,” says Moon. “But I was also thinking about the state of the world which brought up feelings of depression, anger, confusion and just…wanting my life back.”
In a twist of fate, Toronto outfit Twin Rains (Jay Merrow and Stoesser) were writing an original score for Alexander’s documentary, and Stoesser had a brainstorm that the song would be perfect for the closing credits. Suddenly, there was a deadline put on the song. Baljeu asked Twin Rains to remix Secret Sign’s most recent mix as an option for the film and ended up liking it so much that he suggested using it for the actual release. The rest is history.
Listen to the song below, and be sure to hit up their socials to show some love. One thing is certain … we can’t wait to hear more music from this talented bunch.
