I’ve made many a mix in my lifetime but this is the mixtape that started it all folks. This mixtape is the beginning of The Indie Machine.
Somewhere in and around 2006, I curated a collection of songs that meant a whole lot to me; this is the result. Facebook was an infant, YouTube was fresh out of the womb, Spotify and Instagram did not exist… it’s crazy to think about. I gave CD copies to friends and friends of friends and they came back for more. It ignited my passion for music like never before. These are songs that made me feel emotion in every sense of the word but most of all, songs that made me want to get up and dance.
Fast forward to present day and these are the songs that make me want to wake up from the hibernation and continue this journey with music and more importantly, sharing the music with you. Having more free time in the world than ever before, I’ve realized these songs still make me feel the same emotion I felt all those years ago. Isn’t it funny what a global pandemic will do to you?
On a music related note… I’ve spent the better part of the last five years DJ’ing in and around this amazing city of ours. I’ve been lucky enough to work with some of the most incredible venues and promoters over that period including my two partners in crime, Dundas Video and more recently, Big Trouble. They have been good to me to say the least.
Going forward, I don’t want to make any promises but I am going to do my best to keep at this for as long as I am enjoying what I am doing. As far as I’m concerned, that is more important than anything I’ll ever do in this lifetime outside of my family and friends. There will be more live shows (when the time comes), a lot more of these ‘mixtapes’ in the coming months and most certainly, music posts on the website again.
All of that said, I want to thank all of the incredible artists I have worked with over the years, the show promoters and festivals who took a chance on this vision and of course my family. Last but certainly not least, Ryan, Liz, Emily and Dan… thank you for all of your support and dedication. Without you, it never would have become what it did. It’s been one hell of a ride.
Stay positive and stay inside my friends… it’s the only option.
